RErescue Member Spotlight SHEILA DICKINSON Real Estate Agent | Rescue Pet Hero Through the years we have come across people who are selfless and are truly an inspiration. Shiela Dickinson is one of our amazing RErescue Members and is someone who stands out from the rest! We wanted to showcase how incredible she is in the pet rescue world. Please read on as we’ve shared our conversation below. Hi Sheila, thank you for being a RErescue Member and for joining us today. Maybe we should start with what motivated you to want to join RErescue? Who cannot love a rescue. They KNOW you are trying to help and from my experience are always grateful. RErescue is an excellant idea. You get people who are in a people business together with needy animals and it has got to work. And by the way...we are all animals...they are just cuter and frankly, more dependable. Who can pass that up? How many years have you been a realtor and why do you love real estate? I got into the Real Estate business in 1992. I know that property is the best investment anyone can make and I enjoy helping others not only finding their dream home but increasing their personal wealth and well being, for the present and the future. Have you fostered a rescue or been involved with helping rescues in the past? I am known as the rescue lady in my old neighborhood of Rancho Cucamonga. I picked them up and got them home or made sure they would have a good one. I have adopted several rescues over the years...in particular two Stumpy Tail Austrialian Cattle dogs and a Tuxedo cat. The Cattle dogs I found up in a small Western town in the mountians, Green Valley Lake. They were living cabin to cabin, sleeping under the patios and eating where they could. What a pair. Beautiful personalities but untrained. We fed them, cleaned them up and took them to my large home and garden. They thrived and we called them Rusty and Scoopy. Scoopy would scoop his head under you arm. When my husband passed I made sure they got a very good home in Fullerton. I hear they are very spoiled. Then I moved with my two spoiled pure breeds and a cat I rescued. Checkers, a homeless Tuxedo cat that could jump across a large room and destroy any garden he found himself in. And he found himself in mine. I am constantly rescuing fur balls...I think they know a sucker when they see one. I have rescued at least 16 plus myself. Keeps you busy. What motivated you to want to help rescue pets? I am motivated by they fact that these pieces of life need us to correct what is largely an inequality we created. We bred them to depend on us, serve our needs and do our bidding. We have an obligation to protect them. They are no longer the wolves of their genetic history. It is our duty to see to their welfare. What’s something you have learned about rescue pets since joining RErescue? I have learned that there are some very clever ways to get people to pay attention and help save these wonderful animals. Get peoples attention then show them what they have been missing. Or at least what they can do to help. As a realtor, how does RErescue empower you? This has got to be the BEST way ever to meet others. You are not only some one making a living, you are a caring member of society. You couldn’t pay for better publicity than that. Why do you continue to support RErescue? RErescue needs to grow...the bigger this gets the better. How has joining RErescue changed you? It hasn’t changed me, but it gave me an outlet for my private passion. What’s your vision for the future as a RErescue member? Since I used to be an artist in the commercial world and a lawyer turned Realtor, it would be great to contribute to the wealth and well being of this very wonderful enterprise.
